Cycling In Paris - Contributed by Team Parcours member, Bathy Phan

This year’s cohort of Parcours Ambasadors come from far and wide and with all kinds of backgrounds and interests… but with one common interest…cycling. Be it triathlon, road or gravel, racing or adventures – the love of the bike brings us all together.

Not too far away though, just over the English Chanel is one of our ambassadors Bathy Phan. Bathy lives in Paris, and perhaps you’d think a tricky place to ride your bike, through city streets and chaos. But Bathy shares the secrets and takes us on some of his favourite rides.

Hi there! Im Bathy, a fun-loving cyclist based in Paris and soon to be in Lyon.

Ive been cycling since 2018. It started as a way to exercise, as I was an ex-karate kid. But now, cycling has become a hobby, a part of my identity, and a passion. Its changed my life. Ill always remember purchasing my first road bike from Decathlon – who knew it would take me to so many amazing places!

I love being on the bike, exploring new places, roads, and scenery. Im part of a club called the Hitters Social Club and an Ambassador for the Nicola Werner Challenge, a yearly charity ride to raise awareness against HPV Cancer. Its been great to be part of such an amazing community and share my fun energy and positivity with others. And lets not forget the delicious ravitos and coffees along the way!

Around Paris, theres a main area where most cyclists go, the Vallée de Chevreuse, located about 15km from Versailles. Its one of the go-to spots because of the hills and valleys, and there are multiple routes to suit every preference – from quick loops to long day rides. You can even take the 2024 Paris Olympic route! Youll find most Parisian cyclists there on Saturdays, and most of the cafés will be filled with bikes along the walls.

Since the Olympics, Ive noticed a growing awareness and appreciation for bike races, both mens and womens. I think the impact on women cycling has been very positive, and were seeing more and more people interested in the sport and picking up their first road bikes. Im very fortunate to have an amazing partner to share the roads with and to share my passion for the sport.

Soon, well be exploring the roads around Lyon and hopefully starting to climb the iconic cols of the Alps and Ventoux (which are on my bucket list!

If you ever find yourself exploring the roads around Paris, there are a few lovely coffee stops you can visit. Here are my two favourites:

Cool Beans in Versailles

Opened in 2024 by Patrick and Manon, a Franco-American couple, Cool Beans is a coffee shop that shares their passion for board games and coffee. Patrick bakes some of the best cookies and brownies Ive ever had, making it a great place to unwind after a ride through Chevreuse. As you sip your post-ride coffee, you can browse their extensive collection of games and soak in the sun. They also host various cultural events throughout the year, including painting workshops, showcasing local artwork, and Patricks adventures as a Dungeon Master.

Storm Cycling Club

Just a stones throw away from Notre Dame in the heart of Paris, Storm Cycling Club is a dedicated training centre run by two brothers, Hugo and Lucas. With brands like Attaquer at their disposal, its your one-stop shop for relaxation, watching races, and even bike washing. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the bustling city and head over to Storm CC to finish off your day!
