Tyre performance that shapes real-world aero

Modern tyres behave differently at varying wind angles and widths, and that affects how wheels perform in real riding.

We collect real tyre drag across a range of yaw angles, then combine with lab-tested rolling resistance data.

The result: wheel design that works with, not against, the tyres riders choose.

SMOOTHER RIDE

Wider tyres can be run at lower pressures, reducing micro-vibrations and helping limit rider fatigue over longer rides.

TYRE SENSITIVITY

Aerodynamics Lab wheelsets are optimised around a 28mm tyre. As rim depth increases, the aerodynamic impact of running a wider 30mm tyre diminishes.

In the case of our rear Disc wheel, a 30mm tyre is marginally faster, so it can be run with no aerodynamic penalty.

AERODYNAMIC PERFORMANCE

We also benchmark the aerodynamic and rolling resistance performance of many of the leading tyre brands.
