Maddy Nutt's Top London Gravel Routes

Looking for some route inspiration for your local gravel rides in the London area? Parcours athlete Maddy Nutt has been sharing her top routes from around the capital. Check them out below...

1)
Esher gravel loop
My all time favourite South West London gravel route. Starting and finishing at G!ro cafe in Esher, this route takes you on some hidden gravel gems and is one I have developed over many iterations and much exploring. With a mixture of single track and bridleways, this really has everything! There is a hidden single track in the woods after crossing Leatherhead by-pass so be sure not to miss this bit! On the whole flat and not that technical, this is a route for every level. This route also goes out and back to KT9 barn for scrumptious baked goodies and coffees.

2) Surrey gravel
One of my favourite Surrey gravel loops. This route takes you around Epsom downs before following a super fun single track descent towards Leatherhead. Back through Bookham and Esher commons and then finishing up on the Tasmin trail round Richmond park.

3) Surrey gravel with Peaslake
A longer Surrey gravel route that heads out to the mighty Peaslake for wide beautiful gravel fire roads. The route heads out to Surrey up a slightly harder gravel climb parallel to Staple lane before heading down Beggar's lane, which is an off-road descent. It heads over to Peaslake and Leith hill and is definitely on the more technical side. Heartwork coffee bar at 55km!
The route heads out to Norbury park and endeavours to avoid any muddy sections for some winter gravel joy. Coffee can be found at the top of Ranmore common before descending back down towards London again!

This route starts with some classic South London gravel before heading up a nice but slightly technical, single track climb by epsom downs. It then heads out towards Reigate hill with some stunning views south of London. Passing Junction 8 cafe at 42km  (which has outstanding views and deckchairs!). The route follows the Pilgrim's way for a fair few kms, which has a bit of a steep descent but the views are absolutely worth the effort! The route then takes you onto the road for a little section before Farthing Downs and then back towards London.

Follow the Downs Link down to the sea!! Head over the Surrey Hills then all the way to Brighton. All the climbing is towards the start of the route, and once you hit the downs Link it is straight and flat more or less all the way to the coast!
